Purchase Linksys WRT54GP2 Wireless-G Broadband Router for Vonage Internet Phone Service

The Linksys WRT54GP2 solves several issues for the traveling telecommuter. This versatile unit combines the industry standard router with a wireless access point and a VoIP device. This unit can be used at home and on the road with equal ease.

NOTE: We have seen a number of complaints about the very similar device WRTP54G which is smaller and tempting - but it appears as of this writing that is suffers from issues that do not affect the WRT54GP2.

The router part of the system is capable of communicating with and controlling nearly any ADSL or Broadband device available today. It provdes four hardwired Ethernet switch ports for laptops or desktop computers. The integrated wireless access point supports both indusry standards (WEP and WPA) for secure wireless communications.

The VoIP device allows a standard analog telephone to be used with services like Vonage over the high speed connection. The two phone ports allow a telephone and a fax machine or two telephone lines, depending on the VoIP provider.

By combining this founction with the router, only one box is generally necessary to travel and work from remote locations, including most hotels and any location with high speed Internet access. Not only is it one less device, but one less AC adapter and less complex cabling. In hotels that only provide wireless communications, the D-Link Pocket Router can be combined with this device to utilize VoIP and secure wireless communications.

From a security standpoint, this device provides an internal firewall and security for systems located behind the access point from random hacker attacks in public networks.
