D-Link Wireless Pocket Router

Filed under: Traveling Telecommuter — Administrator @ 4:24 pm

This handy little item is a must-have for the Traveling Telecommuter. It is compact and offers a  combination of features that travelers will appreciate. Many hotels currently offer high speed internet on an ethernet cable in the rooms, but wireless coverage is less common. Most of the available hotel wireless networks are not secure, rendering them useless for anything except basic web browsing. With the D-Link pocket router, the hgh speed connection can be easily converted to your own private and secure wireless network.

While working from Paris recently, we found the Ozone Paris Network, a small company with the admirable goal of creating a wireless network that spans the entire city of lights. This was the perfect opportunity to try out the special “client” mode of the D-Link Pocket Router. Once configured and connected to our Vonage telephone router, we could use our Vonage phone to make calls and share the single Ozone connection out to multiple PC’s in our little network. This was managed by connecting a second D-Link pocket router to the Vonage Linksys in server mode.
