Filed under: WLAN — Administrator @ 9:31 am

BOSTON, MA — (MARKET WIRE) — 03/31/2005 — Zoom Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZOOM) today announced its first shipments of the ADSL X6, the first Zoom ADSL modem to include ADSL 2/2+ and the first to include Wireless-G capability. The built-in Wireless-G router easily networks with computers and other devices incorporating the 802.11g and 802.11b wireless standards. The built-in 4-port switch makes it easy to plug in computers or other Ethernet devices, and an advanced firewall protects the X6 and connected devices from hacker attacks.

The X6 (Model 5590) works with all popular ADSL services, including ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+. ADSL 2/2+ increases the modem’s maximum data rate to 24 megabits per second, provides an ADSL connection over longer phone lines, and provides other features including improved power management and improved diagnostics. Security Flaw in Linksys Router

Filed under: WLAN — Administrator @ 5:10 am

The popular Linksys WRT-54G router firmware contains a bug where the administrative menus are offered up on ports 80 and 443 to the WAN connected to the system. This means that unless the ports are forwarded to an internal web server or other address, hackers scanning the Internet for these ports could find it quite easy to take over and manipulate the device. Because this router is commonly used to interface household networks to an ADSL service or other high speed connection, it represents a serious security flaw. It is recommended that these ports be forwarded to a non-existant internal address until a firmware fix is made available.
