What is a Traveling Telecommuter?
One definition of a telecommuter is a person that utilizes telecommunications technology to work outside the traditional office or workspace. Most people think of the telecommuter as someone who works for a corporation from home, or as a consultant from a remote office. There is no doubt that if these mainstream remote workers work while they are away from their normal homes or offices, they can be viewed as traveling telecommuters.
With the rapid growth of home based businesses and Internet entrepeneurs, another group is emerging that requires the same technologies. It is estimated that as many as 150 million people in North America were involved in some sort of home based business last year. Many of these businesses are small, with only one person or a couple actively working to keep them going.
Many small business owners are unable to take a vacation, or visit family for the holidays due to the need to keep an eye on their business. Assuming they can find help with physical business needs, such as packing and shipping orders and receiving inventory, these home based workers can also become traveling telecommuters.
